New rules for implementing Unified Payments Interface (UPI) through Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm have come into effect from November 1. NPCI has increased the transaction limit for UPI Lite. Automatic wallet top-up feature has also been launched. The special thing about UPI Lite is that through it you will be able to make UPI payment even without a PIN and password. UPI payment is known as the most preferred payment for Indian users. Last year, India achieved a new record in UPI payments.

What is UPI Lite?

You can keep a maximum of Rs 2,000 in your UPI Lite wallet and can transact up to Rs 500 at a time. NPCI has launched this service specifically for people who use UPI even for small payments. You can add money from your bank account to your UPI Lite wallet for micro payments. Firstly, after the UPI Lite wallet balance runs out, it can be recharged manually. NPCI has rolled out its auto top-up feature from November 1.

Once your UPI Lite account balance gets low, it will be automatically credited from your bank account. However, the government has put another limit on UPI Lite, whereby users can top up their accounts a maximum of 5 times a day, a total of just Rs 10,000.

How to enable UPI Lite?

It is very easy to enable UPI Lite in payment apps like Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm. For this you have to open these apps and click on your profile picture icon. Once you click on the profile picture icon, you will see the Free UPI Lite PIN option below. Next, follow the instructions on the phone screen and activate the UPI Lite service.
