Runway, the video-focused AI company, released a new feature on Friday. This feature, called Advanced Camera Control, will allow users to precisely control camera movement in an AI-generated video. This capability is being added to the company’s Gen-3 Alpha Turbo model, which was released in June. This feature supports text, image, and video inputs, and allows users to specify the direction as well as the intensity of the camera movement. This feature is available to both free and paid subscribers of the platform.

Runway’s Gen-3 Alpha Turbo gets advanced camera control

Although AI video models have made significant progress since they came into the mainstream, one area they still struggle with is precise control of camera movements. Users can control style, objects, and focus, as well as fine detail, but asking the AI to move the camera or zoom in on the shot results in random results.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the AI company detailed an advanced camera control feature that aims to address this challenge. The company has shared several video examples of how this tool allows users to manually control how the camera moves in the shot.

This feature will allow users to zoom in and out of the subject or object in the frame. The camera can also be moved horizontally, vertically or diagonally based on specific prompts. In addition, videos can also be created with sweeping shots to reveal more context to the scene.

Another interesting aspect of the advanced camera control feature is that users can also control the intensity of movement. This means that users can either choose a slow pan or a fast movement to get the desired effect. Furthermore, multiple movements can be combined to generate a free-flowing effect.

These features are only available on the Gen-3 Alpha Turbo AI model. The template is available to both free users as well as paying subscribers. However, those in the free tier will get a limited number of tokens to try out the video creation model. Runway’s paid subscription starts at $12 (about Rs 1,000) per month per user.
